Treatment for Cystic Acne

Acne TreatmentCystic acne is a more severe type of acne than normal. They are formed when bacteria mixes with dead skin and white blood cells. They can actually be quite painful too and sometimes grow underneath the skin and damage cells. But the biggest concern with cystic acne is that they very often cause scars on the surface of the skin that are difficult to remove.

These scars are formed because of the size of the acne that damages more skin cells than regular acne. So they need to be treated as soon as they appear, to make sure they don’t get larger and damage more skin cells around them. There are quite a few different treatments available for cystic acne ranging from topical treatments through to having surgery.

One of the most common treatments for cystic acne is called Isotretinoin. This is taken in pill form for anywhere up to five months for severe cases. It is made up from Vitamin A which helps the skin in several different ways. It will remove any excess oil on the skin, help to unclog pores, reduce any inflammation and also remove the bacteria that is causing the acne.

Isotretinoin is quite a powerful and potent treatment, so you need to make sure your doctor is prescribing it to you. You certainly shouldn’t take it if you are pregnant, as it can damage the unborn child. So make sure you listen to the advice that your doctor gives you. They might even have other forms of treatments that may help.

Obviously every case will be different, so getting the correct medical advice from your doctor or dermatologist will make sure you get the best treatment you can. Some products can have side effects, so it is best you are aware of them before taking them.
